KATHMANDU: The US-based University of San Diego today said it will honour Shobha Pradhan Shrestha, a human rights activist, with Author E Hughes Award for Career Achievement, in recognition of her contribution to international peacebuilding and conflict resolution efforts.
In a statement, the university said Shrestha is one of the 10 outstanding University of San Diego alumni, who will receive the honour during the 19th Annual Alumni Honors celebration slated for April 26. The alumni will be recognised for their career achievement, contributions to humanitarian causes, extraordinary athletic success and exemplary service to the university, the statement reads.
Shrestha, who earned her masters in peace and justice studies from the university in 2008, is the founder and executive chair of Women for Peace and Democracy, Nepal. Currently she is working with more than 400 marginalised women in rural Nepal, focusing on building their capacity and facilitating their role in the process of socioeconomic and political change.
