KATHMANDU, MAR 01 -
The UCPN (Maoist) said on Saturday that it would table a proposal for the election of President and Vice President at the Constituent Assembly.
The party said there should be an election in House for the two top posts with respect to the people’s fresh mandate. Before government formation, the party had softened its stance on the elections but it has been raising the issue again.
The Maoist party reverted to its earlier position after the CPN-UML, which had demanded the re-election of the President and the Vice President, compromised with the NC to join the government. The UML agreed to a proposal in parliament to endorse the President and his deputy. “If the NC and the UML continue to ignore our voices, we will table a proposal in parliament,” said Maoist spokesman Dina Nath Sharma.
